When you look at an untreated aluminium door, you will see a silvery finish which is actually aluminium oxide. Therefore, the outer layer of the metal has no further rust to give. Unlike steel, for example, it looks very good in this oxidised state. You will often see aluminium being used for fixtures and fittings in marine environments because it is so stable so it can certainly put up with wind, rain and other extreme weather conditions at home.
High Tensile Strength
When you use aluminium, you will obtain a doorway that can be bigger than usual because the material is lightweight but strong. In other words, you only need a relatively thin section of it to span a gap thanks to its high tensile strength properties. As such, aluminium frames for bi-folding and sliding patio doors are popular since they can hold very large sections of glazing. You will also often find that garage doors are made from single sections of aluminium for much the same reason. Even double-width aluminium doors for garages are possible from just one section of this durable material.
Aesthetically Pleasing
As mentioned, aluminium doors look good in their natural state, offering a silvery and reflective surface. However, you may wish to coordinate your aluminium doors with the rest of the look of your home. This is certainly possible with the metal. Aluminium can be painted relatively easily, for instance. However, it is particularly suited to powder coating applications. This creates a very even appearance that will last many years. What's more, it won't show any streaks or drips like paint and it can also afford your aluminium doors with a high level of scratch resistance, too. If you opt for aluminium doors at home with a powder coating, then any colour at all will be available from the standard RAL selection.
